When you make a booking via SimpleTrain, we charge processing fees to compensate us for the service and the technical infrastructure provided.
For destinations that can be booked directly and independently without personal support from our experts, we charge a flat rate of CHF 6 + 4% of the final amount per booking to cover the running costs and the development of the platform.
For complex trips that are booked by our experts, we charge a processing fee that covers the time spent researching the best offers and the actual booking. As the work involved varies depending on the destination selected and the number of connections and fellow travellers, different price ranges are indicated. There are also costs for special requests (*) which take a particularly long time.
Despite the processing fee, most tickets are cheaper on SimpleTrain than on other booking platforms: Our experts try to anticipate the best offers for each booking, risking a waiting time to get potentially cheaper tickets. If they are successful thanks to their broad knowledge about the railway network, we would like to share this with you – part of the price saved is therefore passed on directly to our customers as an advantage over other providers.
(*) Special requests are: bicycle trips, ferry connections, journeys with dogs, stopovers (with overnight stay), different travel dates/routes of fellow travellers
Minimum fee: the minimum fee per booking is CHF 25
Postage: if paper tickets (e.g. Interrail passes) have to be sent by post, we charge CHF 5 for postage
Example of costs
Tickets: CHF 520
Processing fee: CHF 64 (12.3%)
Postage: CHF 5
Total: CHF 589
For a booking enquiry that requires the support of our experts, a deposit of CHF 25 is due. This is not an additional processing fee, but a partial payment of the invoice amount. If you decide to go on the trip you requested, the 25 francs will be deducted from the invoice amount. If you decide against the requested journey, the CHF 25 will remain in your SimpleTrain account and you can make further requests without a deposit.
Customers who have already travelled twice with SimpleTrain receive the status “SimpleTrain Frequent Traveller”. For them and for group trips, the deposit is waived completely.
