Reasons for travelling by train with your dog
Comfortable and always in view: Larger dogs are also allowed to travel on most trains. Instead of your four-legged friend having to travel in an uncomfortable cargo hold on a plane, they can sit comfortably next to you. This makes the journey more pleasant for you and your pet and reduces the stress for the animals.
Inexpensive: The surcharge for a dog ticket is reasonable and ranges between 10 euros and half the fare for an adult person.
Time to get some fresh air: Want to go for a quick walk on the way? No problem, simply plan a longer break at a transfer station so that you can relax after a longer stage. This won’t even increase the ticket price.
Things to bear in mind when travelling with your dog

In some cases, the animals must wear a muzzle. Seats cannot be reserved for the animals. Assistance dogs may travel on all trains at no extra charge.

This is possible on the following night trains in private compartments:
ÖBB Nightjet (Zurich–Berlin/Vienna/Graz and Zurich–Amsterdam/Hamburg)
MAV night train (Zurich–Ljubljana–Zagreb)

SJ Euronight/Snälltaget (Berlin–Hamburg–Malmö–Stockholm)
Can I book the ticket for my dog spontaneously?
You already have a ticket for you and spontaneously want to add one for your dog? This is possible in most countries, with the exception of France and Italy.
How much does a dog ticket cost?
This varies from country to country but is usually between CHF 10 and half the price of the adult ticket.
